The Cri du Chat Research Foundation participated as an independent team in Penn Medicine's Orphan Disease Center's flagship fundraising event. This major cycling event brought over 600 cyclists and volunteers to Penn's campus for rides of 10, 32, or 72 miles across the Greater Philadelphia region.
Over its 11-year history, the Million Dollar Bike Ride's 30+ teams have raised over $20 million for rare disease research grants, with the ODC ensuring 100% of funds go directly to pilot research grants. The event featured three route options starting and finishing on Penn's downtown campus, with roads completely shut down for safe cycling.
CDCRF founders participated in the 10-mile short route (278 ft total ascent), designed for novice and younger cyclists. This scenic route included 6 miles on Philadelphia's MLK Drive, closed to traffic on weekends, with one rest stop at the 4.2-mile turnaround point. The foundation operated as an independent team, fundraising directly through donations rather than the event's standard platform, accepting credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, and checks.
